Who We Are
CleanStreet Initiative is a non-governmental organization dedicated to fostering environmental responsibility among Nigerians. Our primary focus is on environmental education, advocacy, health, and community development. By engaging citizens in various programs and activities, we work towards the realization of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promote leadership that minimizes environmental impact.
The Problem:
Nigeria faces a significant environmental challenge with widespread pollution and poor waste management practices. Our streets, waterways, and public spaces are increasingly choked with litter, plastic, and hazardous waste, leading to severe consequences:
- Health Hazards: Piles of waste and polluted air contribute to the spread of diseases, respiratory issues, and other health problems, affecting millions of Nigerians.
- Environmental Degradation: Improper waste disposal leads to soil contamination, water pollution, and loss of biodiversity, disrupting ecosystems and harming wildlife.
- Economic Impact: The cost of cleaning up waste and dealing with health issues places a heavy burden on local economies, diverting resources from essential services and development projects.
- Community Well-being: Living in polluted environments affects the quality of life, diminishing community pride and cohesion, and perpetuating cycles of neglect and indifference.
- Alarming Waste Generation: Nigeria generates 32 million tons of solid waste annually, highlighting the urgent need for effective waste management solutions.

Education and Awareness:

Through our CleanStreet Initiative Clubs and partnerships with local organizations, we engage citizens in active participation. Our community clean-up drives and workshops promote collective action and responsibility.
Waste Management Solutions:
We facilitate the installation of waste bins in public transport vehicles and public spaces, encouraging proper waste disposal and reducing litter. Our hands-on assistance in cleaning efforts ensures immediate improvements in local environments.
Advocacy and Policy Support:
We work with policymakers and stakeholders to advocate for stronger environmental regulations and effective waste management policies. Our goal is to influence systemic change that supports long-term sustainability.
Promotion of Zero-Waste Living:
We educate and support communities in adopting zero-waste practices, from recycling and composting to reducing single-use plastics. Our initiatives provide practical tools and resources for minimizing waste.
